The team events of the Mzansi Inter-Provincial Youth Chess Championships (MIYCC) 2025 took place from December 14–17 at the Sun Boardwalk Hotel. The tournament brings together youth from all nine provinces of South Africa to compete in various age categories, determining qualifications for the SA Junior Closed Chess Championships in 2026.
Several junior players delivered outstanding performances, contributing significantly to their teams’ efforts. Among the top achievers, Izaiah Solomon stood out with a remarkable 5.5/6 points, demonstrating exceptional form. Sophia Hagen, Alex Akemdien, and Wynika Caesar also performed strongly, each securing an excellent 5/6 points. Matthew Webster achieved a solid score of 4/6. Other notable results include Benjamin Dubbeld’s 3.5/6, Callum Lau’s 3/6, and MJ Strydom’s 2.5/6, with all participants gaining valuable experience at this high-level competition.
